TRAVELLING: LOVELY AND TERRIBLE PEOPLE

Chrissy just wrote an article on flying and how aiports bring out the worst in people. I wanted to talk about both. I have been flying since I was 1 years old, so 21 years. 17 on my own (unaccompanied minor until the age of 13). So my first story is a nice one. A year ago I flew to Paris, the longest flight I have ever taken. So I wasn't sure how I would do with that but it was awesome. I had moved from the middle of the plane to the back because a woman wanted to sit with her mother who did not speak english or french. No big deal, I'll move. I ended up sitting next to a guy, and other guy in the aisle next to mine. These guys were so cool, very talkative, which I don't get much anymore. I don't mind the conversation if it's a nice one. We talked about travelling, Paris and drinking as I was almost of age and could legally drink in France. One of the guys actually asked the flight attendant if I could have a drink and she said yes, but I declined. That was one of the most plesant flights I have ever been on.

Next was this summer, I was flying back from Minnesota. It was a late night flight so I wanted to sleep the best I could because I had school in a few days and didn't want to be too tired/jet lagged. This young couple who sat in front of me and in the aisle across from me, had two young childern. One 3, the other 5. I understand young children move about a lot and are pretty loud. But these kids did this times 10 and the parents did not do anything about it. Both the children and parents swtiched seats every 5 minutes ( I am not kidding). One child would want to sit by one parent but then in a specific seat. Both kids where screaming bloody murder and I have not heard Mom so many damn times in my life! The parents tried their best to keep the children busy but did not reprimand them for their behaviors. As I think about this, I have also had kids pushing the back of my seat for a whole flight, that's annoying as hell!

Now this story goes back some, I was under the age of 13, still an unaccompanied minor. But I was at the point where I had been flying for a while. So as an unaccompanied minor, you have to wear a band and or pin stating so. This woman was very rude and just nasty from the very begining at first she wanted nothing to do with me when I asked her a question, she ignored me again and again. As she decided it was time to pay attention to the annoying little girl in front of her, she insisted my band was missing. Given I am a small person and was even smaller back then, it was almost impossible for anyone to put my band on tight enough, and if it was it would stick to my arm hair and be a pain to get off. So sometimes the band would slide and be obscured from view. This woman though instead of asking where is your band? Was acting almost belligerent. Telling me I could not get on my flight without it. She was causing a scene. I proceeded to show her my band, but that wasn't good enough for her, I needed a pin too! (I really didn't.) But of course she did not have any. So that was another huge issue to scream about and another reason to act like a bitch. Eventually I just ignored her because there was no fighting with her and I knew I had everything to get on my flight.

See ya next post! 💖
